What does your Freedom look like?

It starts with a dream and desire for adventure. Freedom Catamarans is all about customer service and solving your needs from the time you contact us and for as long as you own your CAT.  The FC- 52 certified marine grade aluminum live-a-board sailing CAT has taken a couple of years to engineer and design in-house by our U.S. Coast Guard licensed Captains/engineers and Naval Architects (SHANKWEILER DESIGN) to the highest standards meeting or exceeding U.S. Coast Guard commercial vessel regulations, ISO 12215-5 under Category “A” Oceans (hull scantling) & CE (EU) standards for superior durability & safety.

Powered by two Volvo Penta EPA-compliant marine grade engines coupled with straight shafts all in the engine room, reinforced full rudder skegs & Jefa transmission steering system for ultimate durability for that piece of mind when you’re weeks away from the next port.

Each FC-52 is unique to its owner. Build and express your personality in every detail. We have recently expanded our Team and our partners to open up our shipyard in Saigon, Vietnam.  Feel free to reach out for more information.

We have spent a lot of time thinking about and making the ultimate live-a-board for ourselves that we would like to share with you. This marine grade certified aluminum hull allows us to make any necessary changes that you require of your dream CAT. Tell us what your needs and requirements are and we will work close with you together with our in-house designers & naval architects to make it a reality (SHANKWEILER DESIGN).  A good example of some changes that we can accommodate for you is to make the layout more accessible if you are handicapped in anyway.
We include at no extra charge a custom aluminum designed dingy that you will be quite impressed with.
Once the build is completed we can assist you with registering your vessel.  If you are in the U.S. then we will assist you in applying for a U.S. Certificate of Documentation that the U.S. Coast Guard issues for new builds. This can give you insurance discounts and easier access to loans. It makes registering and selling the vessel an ease showing clear U.S. ownership documentation which banks and insurance companies require.  Entering & Exiting U.S. ports is a much easier as well.  You also have an option to register your vessel in Vietnam and keep the vessel here while you plan your sailing adventures.  We are here to help!
We will also spend the time with you during the sea trials to get you familiar with your new CAT until you are comfortable.
We can provide shipping quotes and delivery options as well upon request.
Here are a couple bullet points we would like to mention in our design that are important for our personal cruising requirements. Need more? Tell us about that so we can make it happen.
  1. The end result is having a sailing CAT that you can single handle if needed by all lines coming back to the cockpit.
  2. As maintenance friendly as possible in every imaginable way with special consideration to durability, proven equipment, redundant equipment, reliability, access friendly.
  3. Tow points on the bow and two towing points on the stern for when you may need them.
  4. The CAT has 7 watertight compartments in each hull so you can sleep with a piece of mind. Both stern stairways have closures to keep the seas out and or keep children or pets from going down the steps. Slides open and closed.
  5. Opening hatches & windows in the front, side and top superstructure of the CAT to maximize airflow.
  6. High bilge alarms (audible & visible) with four bilge pumps with automatic pumping on each hull that notifies you if your taking on water. The remaining two watertight compartments (lazarette & collision bulkhead in the bow) are enclosed and have a very small amount of hull below the waterline to have any impact on your stability. U.S. Coast Guard approved emergency manual bilge pump that can also access each compartment..
  7. Volvo Penta D2-60 X 2, EPA compliant marine diesel engines located in designated engine rooms outside of the living quarters.  Diesel tanks are not in the living quarters and have a free flow / gravity fed flow to the engines.
  8. Heavy duty straight shaft transmission located in the engine room for ease of access and maintenance.
  9. Head room in salon is 6′-10″ & 6′-5″ in the hulls.
  10. Everything that we build into this aluminum CAT is fire retardant just like any USCG approved commercial vessel will have on the high seas.  Fire suppression system installed with fire extinguishers throughout the vessel.  Cabinets are made of high quality light weight aluminum honey comb which is used in the industries high end yacht builds.
Our Team of U.S. Coast Guard Captains & Engineers have over 33 years of operating commercial & personal vessels full-time on the high seas around the world. This is our effort to make our dream boat come to a reality by designing with a balance of safety first, comfort, reliability, maintenance friendly & performance.
When we say performance we mean that a couple can achieve 200 to 250 miles per day which is only making 7 to 12 knots average while being very comfortable getting to your destination.  This is every sailors goal.  Anything over this takes a lot of work and can be uncomfortable ride as well that naturally comes with speed.  But sometimes when you have some extra friends onboard you can crank it up and achieve higher speeds just like the other top brands of catamarans out there.
It all comes down to your personal preference and what you need in your CAT for what you will be using it for. If your not ready to go live and sail fulltime on the high seas and want to take some time to get to know your CAT then you can get away with having more of the basic weekend sailing CAT setup and take your time upgrading over a period of time that matches your timeline. We are talking about items like washer/dryer, aircon, high end stoves and refrigerator/freezers. The electrical (solar, batteries, wiring and hardware) installation to accommodate all these items can be added at a later time for this is how we design our CAT’s leaving room for upgrades which brings the overall cost down.
There are other non critical items that can be upgraded at a later time as well that can be discussed to bring down the cost even further.
You tell us how you plan to use your CAT and we can work with you to see what you really need in the beginning and work with you to upgrade your CAT to your timeline and allow you to get into your CAT at a much more affordable price point.
We know that the only propulsion system design on a boat should be of the highest marine quality and reliable to no end which is simply why we have spent the extra time to design and install the most dependable Volvo Penta marine diesel engines that are United States EPA compliant.  You will need this documentation when bringing your vessel into the U.S.  If and when you need the parts you will have the customer support for we have worked close with our Volvo Marine partners for many years. We all know how delays in engine parts and consumables is effecting the world. We can help with that.  No worries if you want a different engine for we will work with you.
These marine diesel engines are coupled heavy duty transmissions with straight shafts. This is all located in the dedicated engine rooms. Just makes sense!
We also stock your CAT with the extra consumables for your next maintenance cycle along with the necessary tools onboard.  We got you covered and it’s part of our service package at no extra cost.
One of the most important mechanical designs on a boat that you will be cruising on with family and friends is to ensure that you have the most reliable steering system together with a bullet proof rudder design.
FC-51 is equipped with reinforced full rudder skegs. With the bluewater sailor in mind the skegs leading edge is angled to reduce the risk of any debris getting caught up on the rudder and or to reduce any impact in the case you hit anything.
We did not cut any corners and have worked close with Jefa Steering Systems engineers to provide the highest quality and reliable transmission steering design integrated with their autopilot system that comes standard on the catamaran.  You can carry a backup autopilot that can easily be installed by you in 15 minutes while underway if it is ever required. Simplicity and maintenance friendly is the goal!
This is a lifetime steering system that no other boats builders are using because of the costs involved in using a 100% all transmission system steering.  Other companies mix and match their systems to make it work and be cost effective.  Jefa Steering Systems has testimonials stating that their spec autopilot has been used up to 20 years without needing to be replaced.
